There is no need to go into details about the wear limit, because as long as you understand the structural characteristics of the tire, you can understand the replacement standard. The "R_radial tires" equipped for automobiles are also called vacuum tires, which use the integral structure of the crown and sidewalls and the wheel hub, and use sufficient ideal structural strength to "constrain" air for filling. The crown of an automobile tire is the thickest part, and the structure includes a raised pattern layer and a crown layer on the bottom. The total thickness is about 12~13mm (millimeters), and the flat canopy at the bottom is actually only about 6mm.
But there is no need to worry about the structural strength of this area, because there are cord layers, steel wire layers and other structures inside for reinforcement, and high-quality rubber still has an ideal strength standard.
Key point: The "side wall thickness" is about 6mm, but the strength is very low.
Ordinary HT road tires are not only a member of the "driving system" of the car, but also a part of the "vibration reduction system" of the vehicle. Its function is to be easily compressed and "flattened" and then restored to the prototype. On a seemingly flat road with many fine undulations, it can achieve the purpose of compressing only the tires without compressing the suspension with small fluctuations.
So the side walls must be soft enough, so the reinforcement layer is only the cord layer. If this area is seriously aging, it will be very dangerous, but this is also a misunderstanding.
Synthetic rubber tires are bound to age, and the aging state becomes hard and "brittle". In this state, if the tire is deformed at a high frequency, it will crack. Which position of the tire deforms with greater frequency and degree?
The sidewall is often regarded as the most serious area because it is compressed every turn; however, the tire crown is actually compressed and will wear against the ground. The most important thing is that the rubber inside the sipe will be torn.
The first place to crack is the “bottom of the sipe”. When cracks appear in this area, the frequency of tire inspection should be increased. If the crack becomes a “crack”, the tire should be replaced.
The depth will basically reach the limit when it reaches about 2mm. If the car will frequently drive on rugged roads, the tire's burst probability will be very high due to the convex pattern layer and the ground tearing the crown.
The order of sidewall inspection is basically the same as that of the tire crown, and it needs to be replaced when it changes from "stripe" to crack. However, due to the relatively poor structural strength of the side walls, replacement is often recommended as long as there are cracks.
